VERCO PROVIDES QUALITY SERVICE AND PRODUCT TO MILLS GROUP FOR OVER FOURTEEN YEARS

The Mills Group, which operates thirty-one CTN’s and forty-six convenience stores throughout the UK, has been buying its retail refrigeration from Verco for the past fourteen years. Starting with Hauser cabinets the company was then one of the first to use the Cambridge, Verco’s own open cabinet range, and for the past two years has been buying the low-front Kingston.

Commenting on the long relationship with Verco, Mills Group’s sales and marketing director Dave Pickford says: “We are currently installing the Kingston in our Mills Local Stores because of its combination of presentation and proven reliability. We have always liked Verco’s approach to cabinet design and manufacture. They’re very well built, have excellent lighting and require very little service or maintenance.”

He adds that the Kingston also offers significant energy savings compared with the closed-door cabinets, which is now a key factor with ever-increasing utility bills.

The company’s latest project is a £½ million refrigeration replacement programme for its seventy-seven stores, which includes removing the existing branded ‘closed-door’ cabinets and replacing them with Kingston. The cabinets are being used for a new grab ‘n’ go concept, which is promoting healthier sandwiches and snack foods as well as pastries, milk and other chilled produce, alongside its soft drinks offering. The introduction of this concept has seen retail sales of these products increase to over £1,000 per week.

Depending on the size of each Mills Local Store, a multiplexed run of 3.75 metres for soft drinks and 1.95 meters for grab ‘n’ go, is installed.

Explains Dave: “The market has changed and in recent months we have seen a decline in the sale of cola lines and carbonated drinks. Thanks to the introduction of the Kingston to replace the old closed-door cabinets, we can hold much more stock and have better control of our merchandising. We are now able to offer consumers more choice and as a result, have seen a substantial 60% growth in energy drinks, bottled waters and juices in many stores.”

Commenting for Verco, sales and marketing director Colin Jones says: “Replacing the branded closed-door cabinets with the Kingston’s has completely transformed the look and feel of the store, making the environment much brighter for customers and staff.”
