WILTS & DORSET SAVES TIME AND MONEY WITH AN UPGRADE TO A SYNTHETIC GEARBOX LUBRICANT
The Wilts & Dorset bus company is part of the Go Ahead group. operating services in an area stretching from Bath to Dorchester and Andover to Bournemouth. It carries 67,000 travellers a day and is one of the leading bus operators in the south of England.
The company’s fleet of buses, which use transmissions from leading manufacturers such as Allison, Voith and ZF, had been experiencing some reliability problems with gearboxes until engineering director Geoff Parsons decided to review the lubricant he was using.
Then as now, Wilts & Dorset’s engine oils were supplied by Optimum Oils, a company specialising in the supply of fuel, lubricant and waste services for the bus and road transport industry and a supplier to other bus companies in the Go Ahead Group.
Says Peter Hutchinson of Optimum: “Geoff was using a Dexron ll based fluid and we suggested an upgrade to one of the new high-performance synthetic Dexron lll lubricants. We recommended Q8’s Auto 15 ED, which is specially formulated for the latest generation of bus transmissions and has undergone extensive field trials with excellent results. It is also one of the most cost effective synthetic lubricants around.”
Geoff Parsons agrees that upgrading to a fully synthetic lubricant made good commercial sense and reports that in the twelve months since changing to Auto 15 ED his gearbox problems have reduced dramatically.
“Auto 15 ED has performed extremely well across all our gearboxes, contributing substantial savings through reduced maintenance, fewer oil drains, lower filter usage and less waste.” He says.
