HIGH PRESSURE CUTTING FLUIDS COMPLEMENT METALCUTTING TECHNOLOGY TO IMPROVE FEED AND SPEED
Most manufacturers accept that different metalcutting techniques require different, often specialised fluids, but the application/delivery of the fluid is often overlooked leading to problems such as foaming and scumming, misting and burning.
To avoid these problems the efficient delivery of fluid is vital to the production process, and should take into account both pressure and water condition.
For example, soft water will promote foaming and hard water will cause scumming. High-pressure jets can be deflected away from the critical areas and will deliver only a fraction of the fluid needed. Fine sprays often fail totally to deliver sufficient fluid. And if only small quantities of neat oil are applied, it can easily burn off and create a 'smoke' effect.
Concentration levels for water soluble cutting fluids is also often overlooked by operators, many of whom wrongly believe that a higher concentration always produces better performance.
With its global experience of best practice in every area of metalworking, Castrol is able to advise customers on the selection and application of soluble and neat fluids for all metalcutting operations. The company's range of extreme pressure neat and soluble coolants compliment the latest metalworking technologies, providing the most effective combination of lubricity, cooling and metal removal to help manufacturers achieve even greater work speeds and feeds, and extend tool life.
